The film follows several people during a brief period in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters. A black police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the distracted district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist veteran cop who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful black Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop and a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets. Later in the film many controversial situations turns up, mostly because of stereotypes and prejudice.

This film is all about prejudice and stereotypes, and the USA is a country that has these problems. People make themselves thoughts about others that often aren’t the truth. This film shows us that when a society is ruled by stereotypes and prejudice it is often filled with racism and conflicts between people.

The message or theme of this film is that prejudice and stereotypes is a destroying factor for a society. Racism, people get bad self-confidence, conflicts break out.
